HISTORY: The first United Thank Offering was in 1889. It began as part of the missionary efforts of the Women's Auxiliary to the Board of Mission, authorized by the General Convention in 1871. Every cent given to the UTO in thank offering is used for granting. No thank offering is ever used for administration. More than one hundred grants are awarded each year. If everyone in the church were to make even very small daily thanksgiving offerings, the UTO would be able to finance all the worthy grant requests rather than fewer than half of them.
SHIRLEY REED is UTO Chairperson for St. Paul's.
